Outdoor Economy Projects

Tourism Impact Services supports communities, alliances, and organizations in advancing responsible outdoor recreation through strategic assessment, community engagement, asset mapping, and program development. Our projects help destinations leverage outdoor recreation as a driver of stewardship, access, economic opportunity, and resident quality of life.​

Typical services include stakeholder engagement, needs assessments, recreation readiness evaluations, development of strategic frameworks, and final reporting to guide action-oriented solutions.

Selected Projects

  • International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) — Developed a community recreation readiness standard, assessment tool, and recognition program building upon IMBA’s Ride Center model.

  • Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance (PPORA) — Conducted an industry needs assessment to evaluate challenges, stakeholder gaps, and support strategies for advancing outdoor recreation in the Pikes Peak region.

  • Pigeon River Access Study (North Carolina) — Led a community-driven evaluation to identify opportunities for enhancing river access, expanding outdoor recreation experiences, and supporting local economic development.

  • Molalla Wild & Scenic River (Oregon) — Facilitated a community-led asset mapping process and developed a regional outdoor recreation map.

  • Tennessee Riverline (TN, AL, KY) — Acted as content expert on tourism and marketing to develop a multi-partner strategy plan for the organization responsible for overseeing a 600 mile connected river and park system. . 

  • Made x Mountains (Western North Carolina) — Created community assessment and planning modules to help rural towns leverage outdoor recreation for economic development and stewardship growth.
